Changes to rule around alcohol sales in Ribble Valley

Published: 4th April 2025

Rules regarding the sale of alcohol in the Ribble Valley that were relaxed during the Covid pandemic have been tightened again.

The law was temporarily changed to allow premises with an on- licence (ie to sell alcohol for consumption on the premises only) to carry out off-sales (to sell alcohol for takeaway or delivery) without having to apply to the council for a variation in their licence.

That change came to an end on Monday 31st March and licensing laws have reverted to the pre-Covid position.

If any on-licensed premises want to continue to carry out off-sales, they must apply for a variation to their licence.

The changes were in line with national guidance.
