Members of a Ribble Valley leisure centre are all “in a spin” thanks to a funding boost.

Charity Ribble Valley Sport and Recreation was granted £80,000, funded by the UK Government and administered to local projects by Ribble Valley Borough Council, to create a “spinning hub” at Roefield Leisure Centre, Clitheroe.

The hub, which boasts 27 spinning machines as well as specialist lighting and a large screen, has proved a hit with users of all ages.

“Since it opened you could say that the spinning hub has really taken off,” said centre manager David Potts.

“The spin machines are great fun and they appeal to people of all ages and fitness levels and they’ve helped us maintain our membership levels.”

The centre runs 20 hours of spin classes, six days a week and at different times to suit everyone.

“They’re a great way of burning off calories and keeping fit but they’re also a very social way of bringing people together. It’s a fun environment and people have control of how much effort they want to put in to suit their ability and fitness levels.”

Councillor Stuart Hirst, chairman of the council’s community services committee, said: “It’s great to see these classes being such a hit with people of all ages. This is an investment in the health and well-being of local residents and I hope the spinning hub continues to generate energy and enthusiasm for keeping fit.”
