Popular Public Loo Flushed with Pride After £30,000 Revamp

Ribble Valley Borough Council has splashed out on new flooring, tiling, doors and vanity units at the ‘tired and dated’ toilets in Sabden.

Nestled beneath Pendle Hill and surrounded by stunning countryside, Sabden is a hotspot among walkers looking for a gentle stroll or serious hike.

And the Sabden toilets are conveniently located in the village car park in Padiham Road.

Ricky Newmark, chairman of Ribble Valley Borough Council’s community services committee, said: “Although the provision of public toilets is not a statutory duty, we are committed to providing the facilities our residents and visitors need.

“Tourism is pivotal part to our economic strategy and we work hard to develop key markets, such as walking, so access to public toilets is an important part of our visitor offer.

“We are delighted to give the Sabden toilets a much-needed revamp, which will ensure residents and visitors have access to modern conveniences.”

Ribble Valley Borough Council also recently started work on a £156,000 scheme to install fully-accessible Changing Places toilets at the popular Clitheroe Castle Park and Edisford riverbank.

And the council also stepped in to prevent the permanent closure of public toilets in Berry Lane, Longridge, with a £45,000 vandal-proof revamp.
