Clitheroe Promises Cracker of a Christmas On 2 December
A free feast of festive cheer comes to Clitheroe on 2 December, when the town hosts its annual festive jamboree.
Ribble Valley Borough Council has joined forces with the Clitheroe Chamber of Trade and the Grand to ensure this year’s festive bash is a cracker.
From 1pm, Clitheroe Market will resound to the Sounds of Sykora, with a funky festive playlist guaranteed to warm the cockles of your heart, after which the popular Clitheroe Pop Choir will take to the bullring at 2.30pm, followed by a Christmas lights switch-on at 3pm by Ribble Valley Mayor Mark Hindle.
Then from 4.30pm Clitheroe Castle will host a Carols at the Castle event organised by the Grand and supported by the Clitheroe Christians in Partnership.
The free sing-along at the castle bandstand will feature modern and traditional carols and the first 1,000 participants will receive a complimentary cup of hot chocolate and mince pie!
And throughout the day a host of events organised by the Clitheroe Chamber of Trade will take place in Clitheroe town centre, including the yarnbombing of bollards and lampposts and a Santa’s grotto at the castle gates in Castlegate in aid of the Clitheroe Foodbank.
Meanwhile in Castle Street there will be live music, fire jugglers and stalls selling winter woollies.
Families can enjoy an elf hunt in the grounds of Clitheroe Castle and anyone collecting a map for the hunt from the Castlegate collection point, who is wearing a Christmas jumper and is happy to have their picture taken for social media, will be entered into a prize draw for Shop Clitheroe vouchers.
Nicola Hopkins, Ribble Valley Borough Council’s director of economic development and planning, said: “We are delighted to be working with the Clitheroe Chamber of Trade and the Grand to host this festive jamboree.
“Visitors to Clitheroe and the market on December 2 can expect top-quality local produce, great music, a feast of free family fun and a warm Ribble Valley welcome.”
Lucy Greenhalgh, president of the Clitheroe Chamber of Trade, added: “A lot of work goes into making Christmas in the town special and we have pulled out the stops to ensure this year is a cracker.
“Clitheroe has some of the best independent shops in Lancashire and visitors are invited to see for themselves what our unique shops and market have to offer.
“So, forget the hustle and bustle of the shopping mall and come to Clitheroe for a feast of family fun and a cosy Christmas.”
