New Ribble Valley Mayor Mark Hindle has invited schools and community groups to contact him if they want to ‘meet the mayor’.

Aiming to use his year of office to ‘connect with people and go on regular walkabouts’, Councillor Hindle is hoping to engage with at least 20 schools and community groups during his mayoral year.

A former microbiologist and NHS chief executive, who recently retired after 45 years’ service, Mark came to Whalley over a decade ago, when he was appointed the Chief Executive of Calderstones Partnership Foundation Trust.  He represents the ward of Whalley and Painter Wood.

With a keen interest in education and championing young people, Mark has also held several trustee roles, including as a board member for the Champion Education Multi Academy Trust in Blackburn and as a trustee at the Old Grammar School in Whalley.  He has also recently been involved in supporting the development of Ebeneezer’s café and community centre with facilities for young people in Whalley and Billington.

As well as his key objective of connecting with the Ribble Valley community, Mark also wants to use the office of mayor to promote the role of Ribble Valley, with a particular focus on tourism, as well as supporting his charities which include Ribble Valley Food Bank, Ribble Valley Dementia Alliance, and Pendle Dogs in Need.

Councillor Hindle said: “I am honoured to be Mayor of Ribble Valley.  I want to use the office to connect with people.  I will be doing regular walkabouts and visiting community centres talk to people about being mayor. I want to listen to people about what they think about what the mayor and council could and should do. I am particularly keen to visit as many schools as possible during my year and explain to young people what the council and the mayoralty is about”

In his spare time, Mark enjoys spending time with his family and walking his dogs.  Mark also plans to complete the Ribble Valley Jubilee Trail in support of previous Mayor Councillor Stuart Hirst’s charities.

Councillor Hindle’s Mayoress is his partner, Tracey.
