Clitheroe Castle to Light Up Blue for NHS 75th Anniversary
Clitheroe Castle will be lit up blue on Wednesday (5 July) to mark the 75th anniversary of the NHS.
From its inception in 1948, as the first universal health system available to all and free at the point of delivery, the NHS now treats over a million people a day in England.
To mark the occasion, Clitheroe Castle will be joining other iconic landmarks across the North West and UK to be ‘lit up’ blue on Wednesday night.
Former microbiologist Ribble Valley Mayor Mark Hindle, who enjoyed a 45-year career in the NHS and recently retired as chief executive of the Calderstones Partnership Foundation Trust, said: “We can all rely on great care from the NHS when it is really needed
“The NHS was at its finest during the Covid 19 pandemic, when so many brave staff risked their lives to help people who were severely ill.
“The NHS is about the people who work in it and the people who use it and we can look on the great care we receive, regardless of our ability to pay or social class, with gratitude.
“Let’s use the 75th anniversary of the NHS to thank all the great people who have worked in it over the years and look forward to it going from strength to strength over the next 75 years.”
Residents of Clitheroe are invited to record the occasion by taking photographs of the castle lit blue and sharing them on social media using the hashtags #NHS75 and #LightUpBlue.
