Clitheroe Castle to Be Lit Purple for Census Day
Clitheroe Castle is to be lit purple this weekend marking census day on Sunday (21 March).
The iconic castle will join over 100 buildings and landmarks across England and Wales that will be lit purple to celebrate the census and its importance to communities.
The census happens every 10 years and gives a picture of the people and households in England and Wales.
It helps inform the provision of public services, such as the number of school places and hospital beds needed in communities.
Pete Benton, ONS director of census operations, said: “The census is an important undertaking that helps inform the services we all rely on every day.
“We would like to thank Ribble Valley Borough Council for agreeing to light Clitheroe Castle purple to mark this important day.
“Now is the time for Ribble Valley residents to complete their census and be part of history.”
Households across Ribble Valley are currently receiving their census letters with unique access codes enabling them to complete their census online.
