2023 Review of Parliamentary constituencies in England
The Local Government Boundary Commission for England has now concluded the 2023 Review of Parliamentary Constituencies in England. Submission of the final report and recommendations to the Speaker of the House of Commons was made on 27 June 2023.
Once the reports of all four Parliamentary Boundary Commissions have been laid before Parliament by the Speaker, the Government must prepare a draft Order to implement the new constituencies for the whole UK.
This should be provided to the Privy Council for approval within four months of the last report of the four Parliamentary Boundary Commissions for the UK being laid in Parliament. Once the Privy Council approves the Order, the new constituencies will be used at the next General election following that date (any by-election in the meantime will continue to use the existing constituency).
The Commission’s final recommendations are set out in a report of three volumes and can be found on the Boundary Commission for England website
The new boundaries will help deliver electoral equality for voters in council elections by ensuring each constituency is made up of roughly the same number of Parliamentary electors.
Residents and organisations in Ribble Valley were invited to have their say on changes to the borough’s ward boundaries. The Commission published the initial proposals for an eight-week written consultation on 8 June 2021.
On 22 February 2022 responses to the initial proposals and a six-week ‘secondary consultation’ (including between two and five public hearings in each region) were published. Revised proposals were published on the 8 November 2022 and a four-week final written consultation was conducted.
All recommended constituencies had to have no less than 69,724 Parliamentary electors and no more than 77,062 (except two ‘protected’ constituencies on the Isle of Wight).
The total Electorate for the new Ribble Valley County Constituency is 75,993. A Boundary Commission for England, final recommendations map for Ribble Valley County Constituency.
