Definitive Maps
What are Definitive Maps?
Definitive Maps are the legal record of Public Rights of Way, the map shows the status and route of the Rights of Way.
The Definitive Statement, which accompanies the Definitive Map, which may include, further details such as further defining the position of a Right of Way, it's width or limitations or conditions on the public's rights.
You can use the Lancashire County Council mapping system MARIO (Maps and Related Information Online) to view rights of way anf other map based information for Lancashire.
Can the maps be changed?
The Definitive Map and Statement can be amended if new evidence of rights of way or errors in previously recorded information is discovered.
Inclusion of a way on the Definitive Map is conclusive evidence of the public's rights along that way. Any information included on the Definitive Statement is also conclusive evidence of that information.
